Volt's Zero Layer Heat System pairs four heating zones with 80g of compressible polyester insulation, quilted nylon front and back and softshell side panels. Unlike the thin mid-layer vests elsewhere on this list, this one is designed to be worn as an outer garment in genuinely brutal cold.
Peak output reaches around 150°F, which is the highest here, and the construction quality is visibly a step above the mid-range options.
The trade-offs
Runtime is the problem. Volt quotes just over two hours on the highest setting and up to six hours on low — the shortest figures in this ranking, because a high-output four-zone system drains a USB pack quickly.
